Total of 954 Policemen received Police Medals on the occasion of Independence Day 2023

A total of 954 Policemen received Police Medals on the occasion of Independence Day 2023. President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) was awarded to 01 CRPF personnel, Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) was awarded to 229, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) was awarded to 82 and Police the Merit Medal (PM) was awarded in 642.

Among the majority of the 230 gallantry awards, 125 personnel from left-wing extremism-affected areas, 71 personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir region and 11 personnel from the North-East region are recognized for their bravery. The personnel who received Gallantry Awards include 28 from CRPF, 33 from Maharashtra, 55 from J&K Police, 24 from Chhattisgarh, 22 from Telangana and 18 from Andhra Pradesh, remaining from other states/UTs and CAPF.

The Presidential Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) and the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) are awarded for conspicuous gallantry for saving life and property or for preventing crime or apprehending criminals.

The Presidential Police Distinguished Service Medal (PPM) is awarded for special excellence in police service and the Police Meritorious Service Medal (PM) is awarded for meritorious service characterized by resource and devotion to duty.
