IMD Issues Rain Thunderstorm Alerts Across India Odisha Braces for Heatwave

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across multiple states, with a heatwave warning issued for parts of Odisha. According to the latest advisory, the Western Himalayan region including Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh will experience scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall over the next few days due to an active Western Disturbance.

Cold winds are likely to sweep through Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, while isolated heavy rain is expected in Arunachal Pradesh. Rainfall activity will also extend to central Maharashtra, North Interior Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh until March 31. The IMD has forecast above-normal rainfall for South Peninsular India, while the rest of the country is expected to see below-normal precipitation during the week.

Western Rajasthan is likely to experience dust storms, and hot, humid weather conditions are expected in parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and coastal Gujarat from March 28 to 31. A gradual rise in temperatures by 2-3°C is anticipated over East India in the next two days, while Northwest India will see a temporary dip in temperatures before rising again after March 30. Central India will see a slight cooling effect over the next three days, followed by stable temperatures.

A heatwave warning has been issued for several districts in Odisha, with maximum temperatures expected to rise by 2-4°C over the next two days. A ‘Yellow’ alert has been issued for Sambalpur and Boudh districts on Friday, extending to Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Bargarh, and Sundargarh over the weekend.
