Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna, has done wonders at the box office. Despite mixed to negative reviews, the film showed little growth on Saturday with the collections of the Hindi version reaching around ₹37 crore. However, some industry insiders claim that the box office numbers are manipulated by the film producers. Brahmastra is celebrated for its VFX and performances, but does not boast of a very strong script or tight editing. Shah Rukh Khan’s cameos and several other big names are also being talked about.
According to a report on Boxofficeindia.com, the two-day collections of the Hindi version are around ₹68 crore (with ₹37 crore on Saturday), while the collections for all formats are around ₹76 crore. It is said to have grossed around ₹3.5-4 crore in other languages on Saturday. The portal also reports that Brahmastra has registered historic numbers overseas, especially in the US and Canada, as it crossed the $3 million mark on the first day including paid previews. The collection is expected to be around 9-10 million dollars for the weekend.
On Friday, Karan Johar took to Instagram to inform that the film grossed ₹75 crore worldwide on its opening day. He wrote: “Humbled… Grateful… but still can’t control his excitement!” Alia Bhatt also shared director Ayan Mukerji’s post on her Instagram, thanking everyone who watched the film. Ayan’s post read: “Gratitude, excitement, hope! A big thank you to everyone everywhere who went to the cinemas to experience Brahmastra and keep our film culture alive and dynamic. We look forward to the next few days.” Anil Kapoor also congratulated Alia and Ranbir for the film’s success in the comments section of the post.
