Pfizer Inc. and its German partner BioNTech are preparing for a trial with Moderna Inc. in 2024. in London’s High Court in competing patent claims over their competing COVID-19 vaccines. The case first came to London’s High Court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, ahead of a trial due in April 2024.
Pfizer and BioNTech sued Moderna in London in September, seeking to invalidate two of Moderna’s patents related to its messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines. That month, Moderna filed its own lawsuit over the Comirnaty vaccine by Pfizer and BioNTech, seeking damages for alleged infringement of its patents.
Pfizer, BioNTech and Moderna are also involved in lawsuits in Germany, the Netherlands and the United States. The German and U.S. lawsuits against Moderna, which were filed on the same day in August, both seek financial compensation. Pfizer and BioNTech are filing a countersuit in the United States. All three companies are also embroiled in US patent disputes with other companies over vaccines.
