Space Focus: Young galaxies with an attractive look amazingly matured shortly after the beginning of the universe and Big-Bang

A young galaxy with an attractive, word-of-mouth galaxy A1689-zD1 has a talking galaxy expert. Recent observations indicate that the galaxy, which is considered to be 700 million years after the Big Bang, is much larger than previously thought, with massive hot gas emissions, as well as a halo of cold gas coming from its outer edge. A1689-zD1 is considered to represent the smaller ‘normal’ galaxies (unlike the ‘large’ galaxies), and new assumptions suggest that the younger galaxies may be more complex than previous models.

The A1689-zD1 was first detected in 2007 by the Hubble Space Telescope, and at the time was the rival of the longest galaxy to be discovered (a record that has been surpassed several times, most recently in April 2022). Indeed, it is so far away that the only reason we can get a good idea of it at all is that it is easily found behind a very close galaxy, its interaction of gravity and atmospheric pressure creates a lens effect, amplifying the A1689-far zD1 behind it. The Spitzer Space Telescope was able to view the galaxy next to Hubble, but the clearest images of the galaxy were found inside the Atacama Large Millimeter / submillimeter Array (ALMA), which focuses on invisible wavelengths and is well suited to distant objects. .

“The emissions of carbon in A1689-zD1 are significantly higher than those observed with the Hubble Space Telescope,” said Seiji Fujimoto, a post-doctoral associate at the Niels Bohr Institute, “and this could mean that the old galaxies are not as small. In fact, the galaxies of the first galaxies are even larger than we once thought. This would have a profound effect on the theory of the evolution of the galaxy and the evolution of the first universe. ”

Next to the A1689-zD1’s extraordinary girth, there appears to be an astonishing rate of star formation in the carbon gas around the galaxy, although this gas may be a sign of galactic fusion occurring in the early stages of the galaxy the formation of the galaxy. Either way, it raises the first ever-changing phase of the galaxy’s formation.

Near the core of the galaxy, the team also noticed signs of hot, ionized gas that often represent extreme, powerful events such as supernovae explosions or jets from the growth disc of a black hole. This greenhouse gas emission may be associated with a cold outside gas halo, and researchers are amazed. At least, they did not expect to see it in such a small galaxy. “We have seen this kind of emission of halo gas from the later constructed galaxies in the Universe, but seeing it in such an ancient galaxy means that this kind of behavior exists worldwide even in the most modest galaxies that make up many stars in the universe. The Early Universe, ”said Darach Watson, assistant professor at the Niels Bohr Institute. “Understanding how these processes occur in such a small galaxy is crucial in understanding how astronomical formation occurs in the first Universe.”

A1689-zD1, a star galaxy found in the Virgo constellation, as seen by ALMA. Gravitational lensing makes the new galaxy appear nine times brighter of course, this single comment will not be able to rewrite the books yet. Researchers will continue to look at the initial atmosphere of the same old galaxies, to determine if A1689-zD1 is normal in size and function, or if outside. The James Webb Space Telescope, which, like ALMA, is well-suited for viewing small galaxies at this distance, should provide a larger sample for reading will be available online later this summer – though it will also rely on awesome gravitational lenses to discover and learn about ancient galaxies.
