Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo are on high alert as they investigate 12 suspected Ebola cases in the northwest. While initial tests have returned negative, concerns persist, especially as neighboring Uganda has declared an outbreak in its capital, Kampala, with one confirmed fatality.
Equateur province, a known hotspot for the virus, has already reported seven deaths linked to the suspected cases. The region has faced multiple Ebola outbreaks, including a devastating one from 2018 to 2020 that claimed nearly 2,300 lives.
Further testing is underway in Kinshasa to determine whether an outbreak is emerging. Health officials remain vigilant, urging caution as they await definitive results.
