On Sunday, breathtaking performances from Ajinkya Rahane, Devon Conway and Shivam Dube took CSK to a colossal total of 235 for four before the bowlers restricted KKR to 49 runs behind the target.
After the win, in the post-match presentation, Dhoni was asked about the CSK fans’ invasion at the Eden Gardens, which turned the KKR den into a “sea of yellow” as described by Ravi Shastri, and the captain’s statement left fans emotional. He felt that fans had come to say goodbye to him in large numbers, so he thanked the audience.
“Just thank you for the support, they came in great numbers. Most of these guys will come in KKR jersey next time. They are trying to say goodbye to me, so thank you very much to the crowd,” he said.
This is not the first time that Dhoni has hinted at an IPL exit. In the match against SRH, after the win, Dhoni admitted that he was “in the last phase of his career”, a statement that caused shockwaves.
