7th Pay Commission: Punjab is the latest to join the list of states that have announced a hike in Dignity Allowance (DA) for government employees ahead of the Diwali festive season. The AAP-led Punjab government has decided to provide 6% Dearness Allowance (DA) to employees and pensioners with effect from October 1 this year. The decision, which should benefit millions of employees and pensioners, has been approved by the government. The central government increased the allowances of its employees in September.
Here is a list of states that have announced DA hikes in recent weeks.
Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh government has increased the poverty alleviation allowance (DA) and relief for government employees and pensioners to 38% with effect from July 1. of each employee for the financial year 2021-22.
Haryana
Earlier this week, the Haryana government announced a 4% hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees drawing pay under the 7th Pay Commission structure. DA has been increased from the existing 34% to 38% of basic pay with effect from 1 July 2022. The increased DA will be paid with October pay, while the three months’ arrears from July will be due in November.
Chhattisgarh
The Distress Allowance (DA) for state government employees in Chhattisgarh has been increased by 5% to 33%. Around 3.80 lakh state government employees will benefit from the latest hike. The increase will be effective from October 2022.
Jharkhand
The Jharkhand government has decided to increase the poverty allowance (DA) for state government employees and the dearness relief (DR) for its pensioners by 4%, taking it to 38% from the existing 34% with effect from July 1 this year. The decision is expected to benefit around two million state government employees and 1.35 million pensioners.
Delhi
In line with the Centre’s decision, the Delhi Government has issued an order to increase the Employee Welfare Allowance by 4%.
Rajasthan
The Rajasthan government has approved a 4% increase in the Dependency Allowance for government employees and pensioners soon after the Union government’s announcement. The latest increase, effective from July 1, raised the care allowance for civil servants and pensioners to 38%.
Odisha
In September, the Odisha government announced a 3% increase in poverty allowance for its employees and pensioners. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved the proposal to increase DA from 31 percent to 34 percent with effect from January 1, 2022. About four million employees and 3.5 million pensioners will benefit from this increase.
