Ministry of Civil Aviation says over 6200 Indians returned from Ukraine, 7400 more expected in next 2 days

India has launched a massive rescue operation with the code name ‘Operation Ganga’ with the aim to bring back all Indian citizens stranded in war-torn Ukraine. The Ministry of External Affairs, in close coordination with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, is making all efforts to bring the Indian students back to India as soon as possible.

Additionally, Indian Airlines are putting in their resources so as to fasten up the evacuation process. Four of the Union Ministers, namely, Hardeep Singh Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju and Gen (Retd) VK Singh have reached the countries adjoining Ukraine to support, hasten up and supervise the evacuation operations. Indian Civilian planes as well as the planes of the Indian Air Force are regularly bringing back the stranded Indian students.

The evacuation process began on the 22nd of February, and till now has brought back over 6200 persons, which includes 2185 people who came just yesterday through ten special civilian flights. The ten flights included 5 from Bucharest, 2 from Budapest, 1 from Kosice, and 2 from Rzeszow by Civilian airlines.

Additionally, 3 Indian Air Force flights are also on the way to bringing in more Indians by the early morning of March 4. Earlier, four IAF flights have already brought 798 Indian nationals between midnight of March 2 and early morning of March 3.

The number of civilian flights is being scaled up further, and more than 7400 persons are expected to be brought through special flights in the next two days. 3500 persons are expected to be brought back tomorrow and over 3900 on 5th March.
