China’s military under his leadership will intensify military training and combat readiness

Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Sunday that China’s military under his leadership will intensify military training and combat readiness to “fight and win” in addition to creating a strong system of “strategic deterrence”. Xi Jinping made the remarks while presenting his work report at the ruling Communist Party’s once-every-five-year congress, which opened its weeklong session here on Sunday. “We will intensify the training of soldiers and strengthen combat readiness across all areas to see that our people’s armed forces can fight and win,” he said.

In the 63-page report, Xi Jinping, who also heads the Central Military Commission (CMC) – the overall high command of the two-million-strong People’s Liberation Army (PLA) – devoted a special section to the military called Achieving the Main Goal. The PLA and further modernization of the national defense and military”. The plans outlined by him assume significance for the Indian military in view of the friction on the Sino-Indian border, especially in eastern Ladakh since May 2020, triggered by the offensive actions of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), which has disrupted bilateral relations.

Xi welcomes China’s rise and calls for unity in Congress

The two sides resolved some issues through 16 rounds of talks and agreed to hold more talks to resolve outstanding issues. In his report, Xi said that achieving the PLA centenary goals in 2027 and speeding up the Chinese people’s armed forces to world standards are strategic tasks for building a modern socialist country in all respects. “We will establish a strong strategic deterrence system, increase the proportion of new domain forces with new combat capabilities, accelerate the development of unmanned, intelligent combat capabilities, and promote the coordinated development and application of the network information system,” he said.

“We will improve the command system for joint operations and strengthen our system and capacity for reconnaissance and early warning, joint strikes, battlefield support and integrated logistics support,” he said. Xi said the PLA will intensify military training in combat conditions, emphasizing joint force-to-force training and high-tech training. Xi’s remarks also take on significance at a time of China’s increasing military maneuvering in the resource-rich Indo-Pacific region.

China claims almost all of the disputed South China Sea, although Taiwan, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia and Vietnam claim parts of it. Beijing has built artificial islands and military installations in the South China Sea. China also has territorial disputes with Japan in the East China Sea. “We will become more adept at deploying our military forces on a regular basis and in a variety of ways, and our military will remain steady and flexible in the conduct of its operations. This will enable us to shape our security posture, deter and manage crises and conflicts, and win local wars,” Xi said.

In addition to increasing the Communist Party’s oversight of the military, he said reforms would be made at military universities and colleges to build a strong training system for “a new type of military personnel and develop new ways of managing military human resources.” China’s military will also improve national defense mobilization capacity and reserve force development, and will “continue to modernize our border, coastal and air defenses. “We will consolidate and strengthen the unity between the military and the government and between the military and the people,” he said.
