Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón meets with Ayush Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal

Mr Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, Mexico’s Foreign Minister, paid a visit to Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi today. A group led by Mexico’s Foreign Minister met to examine different elements of partnership in the fields of traditional medicine and Ayush systems.

Union Ayush Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, in his comments, emphasised the centuries-long friendship and friendly connections between India and Mexico. He said that geo-climatic conditions, biodiversity, physiognomy and people, culture and family values are strikingly similar in both nations.

“Ayush is an acronym for Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Sidha, Sowa Rigpa, and Homoeopathy, and it stands for Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Sidha, Sowa Rigpa, and Homoeopathy. India has a well-developed Ayush infrastructure, and we’ve controlled Ayurveda and other Indian traditional systems for more than 50 years, well ahead of the WHO’s traditional medicine policy. We have successfully linked these systems in order to attain the UN-adopted Universal Health Coverage. Ayurveda is now recognised as a system of Traditional Medicine in more than 30 nations throughout the world, and its popularity is growing rapidly. Ayurvedic goods are exported to over 100 nations worldwide, according to the Union Minister.

“India’s ancient medical systems are now recognised internationally thanks to Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji’s leadership and efforts.” This acknowledgment has prompted the WHO and the Ministry of Ayush to sign a host country agreement for the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine to be established in Jamnagar, Gujarat, on March 25, 2022 in Geneva. This is the world’s first and only worldwide centre for traditional medicine, which will serve as a hub for global wellness and encourage traditional medicine research and development, according to the Union Minister.

“During the COVID pandemic, India had done tremendous effort for the mitigation of Covid-19 via large-scale involvement of Ayurveda and other AYUSH systems,” Shri Sarbananda Sonowal stated of traditional medicine’s contribution in healthcare. Ayurveda has been the subject of more than 140 research investigations, including multi-centric clinical trials, with excellent outcomes. Medicines like Ayush 64, a Ministry of Ayush formulation, have been widely utilised in Covid morbidities and might be beneficial to the Mexican population as well.

“Given the close relations between India and Mexico, I would like to propose a country-level MoU between Mexico’s Ministry of Health and India’s Ministry of Ayush for Traditional Medicine collaboration.” Both countries’ combined efforts can benefit their citizens and usher in a new era of wellbeing. India also offers scholarships to those interested in studying traditional medicine there. The Memorandum of Understanding between academic institutes will continue the legacy of knowledge for the benefit of the people of both nations. “India can always assist Mexico in giving traditional medicine training to its people,” the Union Minister stated.

The Union Minister also invited Mexico’s Foreign Minister to the next Global Ayush Investment & Innovation Summit, which will be hosted in Gujarat from April 22 to 24, 2022.
