In a heartbreaking accident four family members, including a five-year-old child, lost their lives early Tuesday morning in Tinsukia, Assam, when their car veered off the road and fell into an under-construction culvert. Two others from the same family sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh for emergency treatment.
The family, hailing from Bihar, was en route to Tinsukia to attend a wedding. The accident occurred around 4 a.m. along the Dihingia Gaon bypass on the Tinsukia-Dibrugarh route. According to police, the Swift Dzire carrying six family members lost control and plunged into the unfinished culvert, likely due to dense fog and lack of proper road signage.
Locals acted swiftly, launching a rescue operation to retrieve the injured and bring them to the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Mohan Shah, Rajesh Gupta, Montu Shah, and a young child, Arthav Gupta. The injured family members are currently receiving medical care, and authorities have begun an investigation into the accident.
The tragedy has highlighted local concerns over the incomplete bypass and the dangers posed by the unfinished culvert, especially under poor visibility conditions.
