The Indian Army now wants to take revenge on hi-tech. The 12-lakh-strong force has now floated pre-tenders to procure 48 jetpack suits for soldiers to ‘fly’ at speeds of over 50 km per hour, 100 robotic mules and 130 next-generation ‘tethered’ drone systems through fast-track emergency procedures. procurement.
According to the RFP (request for proposal) issued for the jetpacks, the military said the suits with an advanced propulsion system should provide controls for safe ascent and descent, takeoff and landing in all directions.
The four-legged robotic mules are supposed to work at altitudes of up to 10,000 feet. They should be capable of autonomous movement across different terrains, in addition to having self-service and obstacle avoidance functions.
Tethered systems should consist of drones that are connected to a ground station and can provide tracking of targets beyond the line of sight for extended periods of time.
Learning from recent conflicts from Armenia-Azerbaijan to Russia-Ukraine amid an ongoing military confrontation with China in eastern Ladakh, the military has launched several acquisition projects for various types of drones over the past few months.
These include kamikaze drones, armed drone swarms, logistics drones, surveillance quadcopters for infantry battalions, and the like. For the artillery regiments, for example, the Army plans to acquire 80 small remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS), 10 runway-independent RPAS, 44 upgraded long-range tracking systems, and 106 inertial navigation systems for better long-range guidance and large volume firepower on enemy targets.
Then, in addition to continuing production of the first batch of “scare munitions” or kamikaze drones, the military also wants to buy 12 sets of autonomous surveillance and armed drone swarms (A-SADS), each with 50-75 AI. aerial vehicles capable of communicating with control stations and with each other.
While seven of these sets are for high-altitude areas with China, the other five swarms of drones are for operations in desert areas and plains along the border with Pakistan.
