Amitabh Bachchan Gifts Iconic Bungalow ‘Prateeksha’ to Daughter Shweta Nanda

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has reportedly gifted his iconic bungalow ‘Prateeksha,’ situated in suburban Juhu, to his daughter Shweta Nanda, as per official documents. Valued at over Rs 50.63 crore, ‘Prateeksha’ is considered one of the megastar’s first properties in the city and is among the three bungalows owned by the Bachchan family in the area.
According to records obtained from property registration data aggregator Zapkey.com, Bachchan formalized the transfer of the bungalow on November 9, deeming it a gift to his daughter. To complete the transaction, he paid Rs 50.65 lakh as stamp duty. The bungalow, located in the Vitthalnagar Cooperative Housing Society, spans two plots measuring 674 square metres and 890.47 square metres, collectively valued at over Rs 50.63 crore.
Amitabh Bachchan paid a registration fee of Rs 200 for each of the two plots that were gifted. The larger plot of 890.47 square metres was jointly owned by Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan, while the smaller plot was solely owned by Amitabh Bachchan.
The Bachchan family’s connection to ‘Prateeksha’ goes beyond its real estate significance. The bungalow played host to the wedding ceremonies of Amitabh Bachchan’s son, Abhishek Bachchan, to actor Aishwarya Rai in 2007. Another bungalow in the same locality, ‘Jalsa,’ was also part of the celebration. The third bungalow, ‘Janak,’ serves more as an office for the 81-year-old Bollywood icon.
The origin of the name ‘Prateeksha’ is said to be attributed to Amitabh Bachchan’s poet father, Harivanshrai Bachchan, and the property even features in one of his poems. As of now, there is no official response from Bachchan’s office regarding the reported property transfer.
