Ajay Devgn says he doesn’t copy action senses from Hollywood films

Ajay Devgn movie Drishyam 2 was one of the biggest hits of last year. The actor’s fourth film as director Bholaa was released on Thursday. Ajay is also playing the lead role in the action film. In a new interview, the actor-filmmaker was asked about the film’s six-minute bike-truck chase scene, saying that whenever he designs his action scenes, he makes sure he’s “not copying a shot from any Hollywood film.

Ajay Devgn went on to say that in most Indian films, the action sequences are “something you’ve seen in a Bond movie or Mission Impossible”. When asked how he ensures that the action in his films takes a leap in terms of visual impact, technical expertise and VFX with each project, Ajay credited his father Veer Devgan.

“I inherited it from my father (action director Veeru Devgan). I learned most of it from him. He used technology at a time when it was not available. He took it to a point where people were amazed by how he did a particular scene in that particular point. Now that I have the support of technology, I can take it forward and create something where even people who are exposed to technology will turn around and wonder how it was created,” said Ajay.

Ajay devgn talks about his action scenes:

Talking about the scene from Bholaa, Ajay said, “Whenever I design my action scenes, I make sure that I don’t copy a shot from any Hollywood film. In most of our films, you see action sequences and you know this is something you’ve seen in a Bond movie or in Mission Impossible . So when you create something else, there’s no point of reference and it’s harder to do. This action sequence you’re talking about was very risky. We needed some top – bikers, so we flew in some international and some from Pune and three we rehearsed for months. To capture the chase, the cameras had to be closer. It was riskier, so we designed the equipment with safety in mind.”

Bholaa is the Hindi remake of the 2019 Tamil superhit Kaithi and features Tabu opposite Ajay. Bholaa also stars Amala Paul. The original film revolves around an ex-convict who, after being released from prison, decides to meet his daughter for the first time, but gets caught up in the conflict between the police and the drug mafia. Bholaa is Ajay’s fourth directorial film after U, Me aur Hum (2008), Shivaay (2016) and Runway 34 (2022).
