Rahul Gandhi tweeted: ’70 saal mein kya kiya?’ to BJP

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi – who led his party’s Kanyakumari-to-Kashmir ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ – on Saturday again attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over some of the issues he keeps pointing out. However, his recent tweet referred to a slur that PM Modi often uses – the decades-long tenure of the grand old party.

Prime Minister Modi – who led the BJP to handsome victories in the 2014 and 2019 national elections – has often highlighted key areas of national progress that were ignored when the rival party was in power. However, Gandhi responded on Saturday on behalf of his party. “Prime Minister often asks – ’70 saal mein kya kiya?’ We never gave India the highest unemployment rate in history. We never gave India the record price rise it is facing today,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

Still, he reiterated allegations of crony capitalism, adding, “The BJP government is not a government for farmers, youth and women. It is a government for the 5-6 richest Indians who monopolize whatever business they want.” The Congress leader has alleged on many occasions that top businessmen are being favored in the midst of the BJP as unemployment and inflation are on the rise.

His tweet came hours after Prime Minister Modi – addressing a virtual event for the youth of Himachal – said India’s image was affected when it had coalition governments, in an apparent mockery of the grand old party. The Congress has been holding a nationwide foot march since 2014 amid criticism over multiple electoral failures.
