India has launched a public consultation process to create modern framework for telecommunications

The Ministry of Communications, Government of India has launched a public consultation process to create a modern and future-proof legal framework for telecommunications. In July 2022, a consultation paper on “The need for a new legal framework for telecommunications in India” was published and comments were invited. Comments were received from various stakeholders and industry associations.

Based on consultations and deliberations, the Ministry has now prepared the draft of the Indian Telecom Bill, 2022. To facilitate further consultations, an explanatory note has also been prepared, which provides a brief overview of the draft law.
