Shri Amit Shah announced the formation of a National Level Committee to draft a National Cooperation Policy Paper

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah announced the formation of a National Level Committee to draft a National Cooperation Policy Paper. The new National Cooperative Policy is formulated to realize the vision of “Sahakar Se Samriddhi” under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The National Level Committee under the Chairmanship of former Union Cabinet Minister Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu consists of 47 members from all parts of the country. The committee consists of experts from the cooperative sector; representatives of national / state / district and primary cooperative societies; Secretaries (Co-operation) and Registrars of Cooperative Societies of States / UTs; and officers from Central Ministries / Unions.

Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation Shri Amit Shah recently announced that a National Cooperation Policy will be prepared soon which will have a holistic approach from PACS upwards. The existing National Policy for Cooperatives was formulated in 2002 to facilitate the all-round development of cooperatives and provide them with the necessary support, encouragement and assistance to ensure that cooperatives function as autonomous, self-sustaining and democratically managed institutions that are accountable. to its members and contribute significantly to the national economy. Today, India has about 8.5 lakh cooperative societies with a membership of about 29 lakh crore spread across the length and breadth of the country. These cooperatives are engaged in various activities such as agro-processing, dairying, fishing, housing, weaving, credit, marketing to name a few.

The new National Cooperation Policy document is formulated with a view to fulfilling the mandate given to the new Ministry of Cooperation, which includes, inter alia, realizing the vision of ‘Sahakar se Samriddhi’; strengthening the cooperative movement in the country and deepening its reach to the people; promoting a collaborative economic development model; creating an appropriate political, legal and institutional framework that would help cooperatives realize their potential. The new policy will go a long way in strengthening the cooperative movement in the country.
