As 6,809 new coronavirus infections were reported in the day, India’s total number of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,44,56,535, while active cases fell to 55,114, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday. The death toll rose to 5,27,991 with 26 deaths, including five deaths confirmed by Kerala, data updated at 8 am. Active cases account for 0.12 percent of the total number of infections, while the national recovery rate for COVID-19 has increased to 98.69 percent, the ministry said. A decrease of 1,631 cases was recorded in the active number of COVID-19 cases within 24 hours.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.12 percent and the weekly at 2.29 percent, according to the ministry. The number of people who recovered from the disease rose to 4,38,73,430, while the death rate was recorded at 1.19 percent. According to the ministry, 213.20 million doses of the Covid vaccine have been administered so far in the country as part of the nationwide vaccination drive. India’s COVID-19 count crossed the 20 million mark on 7 August 2020, 30 million on 23 August, 40 million on 5 September and 50 million on 16 September. It exceeded 60 million on September 28, 70 million on October 11. , crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and crossed the one million mark in December.
The country crossed the grim milestone of two million on May 4 and three million on June 23 last year. It crossed the four million mark on January 25 this year. The 21 new victims include four from Maharashtra, three from Delhi, two each from Gujarat, Nagaland, Punjab and West Bengal.
