Indo Oman Al Najaf IV joint military exercise concluded today at Mahajan Field Fire Ranges. The exercise culminated in a solemn closing ceremony. This 13-day platoon exercise began on 1 August 2022.The aim of the exercise was to achieve interoperability and familiarize each other with operational procedures and combat exercises in the environment of the fight against terrorism within the framework of the UN mandate. Both armies were able to achieve their stated goals.
The Indian contingent was from the 18th Battalion of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment and the Royal Army of Oman contingent was represented by the Sultan of Oman Parachute Regiment.The exercise took place in three phases. The first phase was mutual orientation and familiarization with the weapons, equipment and tactical exercises of the participating contingents. The second phase was combat preparation, the formulation of joint exercises and their implementation.
The final phase was a 48-hour validation of key exercises and concepts learned during the first two phases. The two contingents jointly participated in a verification exercise that included setting up a mobile vehicle checkpoint, cordon and search operations, heliborer insertion, room intervention practice and effective use of ICVs in a counter-terrorism environment. The exercise also included effective use of the original Advance Light Helicopter ‘Dhruv’, drones and various next-generation technologies.
Overall, the exercise was a great success. Both armies shared valuable combat experience with regard to counter-terrorism, regional security and peacekeeping operations in the international environment. It was another major milestone achieved in ensuring interoperability between the two militaries, strengthening the cordial relations between the two countries and another step forward in ensuring global security.
