Neeraj Chopra Javelin Final Live, World Athletics Championships 2022: Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra moved to fourth place as three rounds of throws in the men’s javelin final. He made a disappointing start to the proceedings when he registered a foul throw before bettering his second attempt of 82.39m with a throw of 86.37m. Rohit Yadav, the other Indian in action, made attempts of 78.72m, 78.05m and 77.95m. Chopra he is trying to add a World Championship medal to the historic Olympic gold he won in Tokyo last year. If he wins the yellow metal, the Indian will become only the third javelin thrower to follow up his Olympic success with a world championship gold after Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen (2008-09) and world record holder Jan Železný of the Czech Republic in 2000-01 and 1992-93.
The legendary Anju Bobby George is the only Indian so far to win a medal at the 2003 World Athletics Championships with a bronze in the long jump. In the qualifiers, Chopra produced an amazing first attempt throw of 88.39m, which was his third career best throw. He finished second best overall behind defending champion Anderson Peters of Grenada, who topped Group B with his opening round performance of 89.91m. Chopra will be accompanied by Rohit Yadav in the final. He reached the final after sixth place in the qualifying group B and eleventh overall from the first round with a throw of 80.42 m.
