Sports Focus: India lost their 2nd ODI match against the England but Yuzvendra Chahal played well and a wonderful record in the ground of the Lord’s.

England’s Reece Topley took career-best figures of 6-24 as the hosts roared back in style after leveling the three-match series in the first one-day international against India with a 100-run win in the second match on Thursday. Chasing 247 on Lord’s wicket, which became vacant after the first innings, India never found their stride and were bowled out for 146 in 38.5 overs. Topley struck a double blow early in the chase when he got rid of opposition skipper Rohit Sharma (0) and Shikhar Dhawan (9) before ViratKohli (16), who returned from a groin strain and fell behind David Willey after a smooth start. Suryakumar Yadav (27) and Hardik Pandya (29) flashed briefly but failed to kick on after promising starts.

All hopes of an unlikely victory in India evaporated when Ravindra Jadeja was removed by Liam Livingston for 29 as England sealed an easy win, three years to the day after beating New Zealand in a dramatic finish to lift the 50-over World Cup at the venue. Earlier, YuzvendraChahal (4-47) tore through England’s middle order and claimed the prized scalps of Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and Ben Stokes as the home side were bowled out for 246 in 50 overs.

England were put into bat and Jason Roy was the first to depart when he chopped a Pandya delivery to fine leg after a scratchy 23, while Bairstow continued his rich form before Chahal cleaned him up on a brisk 38.England’s rebuilding effort collapsed after Chahal trapped Root (11) and Stokes (21) lbw before skipper Jos Buttler missed a straight ball from Mohammed Shami (1-48) to be dismissed for four.

Livingstone attacked Pandya but the bowler got his revenge as the Lancastrian fell into the deeps after an entertaining run-a-ball 33. It took a late rally from Moeen Ali (47) and Willey (41) to push England to within one overto 250. The teams now head to Manchester for the final game of the series on Sunday.
