Disaster Focus: Six people were killed on Sunday when parts of a mountain glacier collapsed in the Italian Alps

Parts of the volcanic eruption collapsed in the Italian Alps on Sunday when temperatures became very high, local officials said, killing at least six people and injuring eight.The Trent district government said rescue operations were continuing after heavy snowfall including climbers, adding that it could be “difficult”.

The massacre took place in Marmolada, more than 12,000 feet [3,300 m], the highest mountain in the Dolomites, a mountain range east of the Italian Alps that cuts through the districts of Trento and Veneto.The injured were taken to hospitals in the nearby towns of Belluno, Treviso, Trento and Bolzano, said Veneto president Luca Zaia.

Heavy snow has fallen near Punta Rocca, a route often used by hikers and hikers to reach the summit, Alpine Rescue Service said.”Fortunately the weather is good but the danger is that it may fall,” said a spokesman.Summer heat in early Italy saw temperatures in Marmolada affecting 10 degrees Celsius (50 Fahrenheit) on Saturday, Zaia said.
