Weather Focus: India received 8% lower rainfall than average in June: IMD

India received 8% less rainfall than average in June due to low rainfall inland, the weather office said Thursday.The cotton, soybean and sugarcane regions of central India received 54% less rainfall than usual in June, according to data compiled by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The monsoon – which accounts for about 70% of India’s annual rainfall and is the backbone of its $ 2.7 trillion agricultural-based economy – reached the coast of the southern state of Kerala on May 29, two days before the trend. Its progress over time stopped for more than a week.
