West Bengal government to introduce 59 evening polyclinics in Kolkata, 17 in Kolkata

Kolkata: 59 primary health centers across Bengal and 17 in Kolkata will now function as polyclinics with the facilities of evening OPDs and diagnostic.

The Kolkata Municipal corporation will have one of these clinics in each of the 16 boroughs. Three such clinics will be under the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation while Borough VI will have two of these clinics – one in Mirza Galib Street and one in Raja Subhodh Mullick Square.

As reported by the sources, each of these polyclinics will have specialists who will help in running the outdoor clinics for medicine, obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics thrice a week and eye clinics twice a week. Recruitment of specialists to help run these polyclinics will start soon.

The state health department gave its approval to run the 77 polyclinics and 102 diagnostic centres at the urban health centres. The notification issued by the Swasthya Bhawan gave its permission State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) to operate 59 polyclinics and 85 diagnostic centres. It also asked the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to operate 17 polyclinics and diagnostic centres in the existing health centres.
