Politics Focus: Searches on Friday morning against Agrasen Gehlot

The search was conducted Friday morning by the CBI in the residence of the brother of Rajasthan Prime Minister Ashok Gehlot, Agrasen Gehlot, in Jodhpur, ANI reported, citing sources. The brother of the Rajasthan prime minister’s brother was under the scrutiny of a company investigating allegations of maladministration. A similar case was previously opened by the Enforcement Directorate. The research is linked to the posting of Muriate Potash or MoP, which is important for crop growth and quality. Gehlot is accused of selling the MoP, which he obtained at a subsidy price, to companies based overseas.

The ED has filed a lawsuit under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act for alleged illegal transactions between 2007 and 2009. Officials had previously said the MoP was sold to companies in Malaysia and Singapore as industrial salt. The government lost R60 crore, according to reports.
