At least 10 people have been killed in an Indian factory explosion

At least 10 people were killed and 22 injured in a chemical explosion at a power plant in the northern Indian state of Hapur on Saturday, a police official said.

The accident happened in the industrial area of Dhaulana, about 40 kilometers from the capital, New Delhi, said police spokeswoman Surendra Singh.

“The factory was registered to do electrical work and now the chemicals are being investigated,” said Singh.

Industrial accidents are common in India and are often blamed on people who violate safety regulations, as well as loose scrutiny of government officials.
