On the first major pilgrimage from India to Afghanistan since the Taliban coup, an Indian delegation led by a strategist from India has now visited Kabul to oversee the delivery of humanitarian aid to New Delhi in the war-torn country. The delegation led by JP Singh, who represents the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran, will meet with senior Taliban members, and hold talks on India’s assistance to the Afghan people, according to an official statement Thursday.
“A team led by the Joint Secretary (PAI), Department of Foreign Affairs (MEA), is currently visiting Kabul to oversee the delivery of our aid to Afghanistan,” the MEA said representing the international organizations involved in the distribution of humanitarian aid. In addition, the team is expected to visit various areas where Indian programs and projects are being developed. In response to the humanitarian needs of the Afghan people, India has extended assistance to the Afghan people. People have also sent a number of humanitarian supplies including 20,000 tons of wheat, 13 tons of medicine, 500,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and winter clothing institutions including the World Health Organization and the World Food Program.
In addition, India is in the process of sending more medical aid and food supplies to Afghanistan. They, also assisted UNICEF by providing approximately 60 million doses of polio vaccine and two tons of essential medicines” said the MEA. He said India’s development and humanitarian assistance had received great gratitude from the entire Afghan community. “In this case, the Indian delegation will meet with senior members of the Taliban, and hold talks on Indian aid to the Afghan people,” MEA said. India was concerned about Afghanistan’s development. A regional conference in Afghanistan in November was attended by NSAs from Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The participating countries pledged to work to ensure that Afghanistan does not become a safe haven for international terrorism and called for the establishment of an “open and inclusive” government in Kabul, represented in all sections of Afghan society.
