India-US Comprehensive Strategic Global Partnership is underpinned by a shared commitment

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had a warm and successful meeting with H.E. Mr. Joseph R. Biden, President of the United States of America, May 24, 2022, Tokyo. The summit has had positive results that will add depth and momentum to bilateral relations. The meeting marks the continuation of high-level general dialogue between the two leaders who met face-to-face in September 2021 in Washington D.C. and negotiated at the G20 Summit and COP26 thereafter. They recently had a significant collaboration on April 11, 2022.

Investment assistance to India

The India-US Comprehensive Strategic Global Partnership is based on a shared commitment to democratic values, the rule of law, and a commitment to respect the laws based on international order. Leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress made in all sectors in the two-state system. The two leaders welcomed the signing of the Investment Promotion Agreement which enables the US Development Finance Corporation to continue to provide investment assistance to India in priority sectors such as health care, renewable energy, SMEs, infrastructure etc.

India-U.S. program

Both sides have launched the India-U.S. program. Critical and Emerging Technologies (CET) initiative to facilitate outcome-based collaboration. Led by the National Security Council Secretariat in India and the United States National Security Council, ICET will build close links between the government, academia and industry of both countries in areas such as AI, quantum computing, 5G / 6G, biotech, space and videos -semiconductors.

Recognizing that defense and defense cooperation is a key pillar of the India-US bilateral agenda, both sides discussed how they can continue to strengthen cooperation. In this context the Prime Minister has invited the US industry to partner with India to produce in India under Make in India and AatmaNirbhar Bharat or India’s trusted programs that could benefit both countries. To further their growing cooperation in the health sector, India and the USA expanded the long-term Immunization Program (VAP) to 2027 to further collaborative biomedical research leading to the development of vaccines and related technologies. To strengthen the strong ties in human relations between the two countries, the Prime Minister called for the strengthening of higher education partnerships that could be equally beneficial.

Leaders exchanged views on regional issues of interest to both South Asia and the Indo-Pacific region, confirming their shared vision of a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. The Prime Minister welcomed the launch of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) and said India was ready to work closely with all partner countries to form a flexible, inclusive IPEF considering the relevant national conditions. The leaders agreed to continue their meaningful dialogue and pursue their common vision of taking India-US cooperation to the next level.
