court ordered the closure of a seal on the Gyanvapi Masjid

On Monday, a Varanasi court ordered the closure of a seal on the Gyanvapi Masjid complex after lawyers representing Hindu applicants claimed Shivling had been found during a court-sanctioned video search. However, a member of the mosque’s management committee disputed the claim, saying it was part of a water source system in a ‘local’ water storage area where volunteers washed before offering namaz. The mosque is near the famous Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi and the court heard a request from a group of women seeking permission for daily prayers in front of statues on its outer walls.
