Virender Sehwag revealed a never-heard-before anecdote from the 2011 World Cup final

The 2011 World Cup victory is still remembered by all Indian cricket fans. The Indian team defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final of the tournament, with captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni scoring the winning runs. However, India was placed in a state of panic at the start of the innings when Indian openers Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar were dismissed early in the 275-run jug.

Sehwag was replaced by LasithMalinga in the first over of the innings, while Tendulkar also dropped in the seventh over for the Sri Lankan speedster. Interestingly, 11 years after the victory, Sehwag shared the story of how the duo shared their excitement by hitting the top during the Sri Lankan innings.

“I will tell you a story about the 2011 World Cup final. Sachin Tendulkar was standing at midwicket, and I was standing on a deep square leg. As the sun sets, we see more light in the wickets. We both looked at it, then looked at each other and showed that it would be fun to hit this wicket. None of us got the runs, ”Sehwag told Cricbuzz, as the expert team discussed the form and lack of runs, especially related to ViratKohli’s foul.

“So every conversation is hot, the wicket is low, you win the toss and you choose to hit … if you are in that episode where you can hit runs, you will not get runs. It’s that easy, ”Sehwag continued.

Following the first two wickets, GautamGambhir (97) and ViratKohli (35) combined for 83 runs in the third wicket that put India in trouble. Dhoni, then lifted himself up before Yuvraj Singh and remained undefeated at 91, taking India to the second World Cup title.
