The 19-year-old Hyderabad player has played his part in the struggle leading up to the highly profitable T20 tournament. Like many other players, Varma served the Indian stars and was surprised to see Suresh Raina beat in the 2014 IPL match. Varma served as a football boy at the time.
Varma’s childhood coach Salam Bayash revealed that Varma wanted to follow in Raina’s footsteps. “In 2014, he got a chance to work as a footballer in an IPL match. During the game, he kept watching Suresh Raina hit. Varma, who received a R1.70 crore paycheck at an auction in February, revealed that she looked after Raina when she was growing up, adding that her dream was to share a writing room with others like Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar.
“From childhood, I watched Suresh Raina bhai and my dream was to play with Rohit Sharma. I wanted to connect with people like Sachin sir,” Varma said in the video.
Mumbai is unbeaten in its first eight games, which is a long history of failing to start the IPL season. But Varma has been one of the top runners this season, collecting 272 runs at a rate of 45.33 so far.
