In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested two Nigerian nationals and a cab driver in connection with a drug trafficking ring operating in the Delhi-NCR region. The trio was caught with 563 grams of pure cocaine, with an estimated street value of ₹3.3 crore, officials said on Friday.
The operation, which took place on September 27, was based on a tip-off about a Nigerian drug peddler supplying narcotics in the region. A team from the Crime Branch apprehended Joshua Amarachukwa, a 30-year-old Nigerian national, along with his associate and cab driver, Vinit, 24. Amarachukwa, who had been staying in Delhi’s Sunlight Colony since 2021 on a medical visa, was found in possession of 257 grams of cocaine.
Drug Network Uncovered
During interrogation, Amarachukwa revealed that his supplier was another Nigerian national, Kone N Golo Seydou, also known as Mike, aged 27. Mike, who resided in Haryana’s Sohna, was later arrested, and police recovered an additional 306 grams of cocaine from him. Amarachukwa disclosed that he had been distributing the drugs in small quantities across Delhi-NCR.
According to the police, Vinit, the cab driver and Amarachukwa’s accomplice, had met him a few months ago and started accompanying him on his drug deals. Vinit, a resident of Sriniwas Puri, is said to have been actively involved in the drug peddling operations.
Sanjay Bhatia, Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, revealed more details about the drug ring, explaining that Amarachukwa had met Mike in a Nigerian kitchen in Delhi’s Vikaspuri area. Mike had promised to support Amarachukwa financially if he agreed to work for him. Mike would provide Amarachukwa with the phone numbers of potential customers and paid him ₹1,000 for each successful delivery.
Mike, who had come to India on a business visa, had reportedly smuggled in 2 kilograms of cocaine when he arrived in the country two months ago. The police said he had established an extensive network of drug buyers in Delhi-NCR and only sold narcotics to individuals he personally knew.
The three accused have been charged under multiple sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police are now investigating the extent of the drug network and its potential connections to international trafficking operations.
This significant drug bust highlights the growing challenge of narcotics trafficking in India, particularly in major metropolitan areas such as Delhi-NCR. The police are continuing their efforts to dismantle these networks and bring those involved to justice.
