North Korea Tests “Suicide Drones” with Successful Target Destruction

Seoul: North Korea has successfully tested a new type of “suicide drone,” with all drones correctly identifying and destroying their designated targets during trials on August 24, according to state media. The tests were personally overseen by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who expressed satisfaction with the performance of the weapons.

The state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Kim, wearing a cream baker boy hat, observed the tests using high-powered binoculars. The drones, which are designed to carry explosives and be deliberately crashed into enemy targets like guided missiles, were shown in state media images blowing up their intended targets.

Kim emphasized the need to further develop and produce more suicide drones, alongside strategic reconnaissance and multi-purpose attack drones. These drones are part of North Korea’s expanding drone fleet, which is intended to strike enemy targets on both land and sea within various ranges, according to KCNA.

In addition to expanding its drone capabilities, Kim highlighted the importance of integrating artificial intelligence technology into drone development, aiming to enhance the effectiveness and versatility of these weapons.

The successful tests of these drones, potentially linked to Russian technology, mark a significant advancement in North Korea’s military capabilities, raising concerns about the implications for regional security.
