BJP Secures 240 Seats, Congress Wins 99 in 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 240 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, according to final results released by the Election Commission early Wednesday. This marks a significant drop from the 303 seats the BJP won in the 2019 elections, necessitating reliance on its NDA allies to form the government. The Congress made a strong comeback, winning 99 seats, almost doubling its tally from the previous election.

Prominent BJP Losses

Several high-profile BJP leaders, including Smriti Irani, Ajay Mishra Teni, and Arjun Munda, were unseated, indicating a shift in voter sentiment, particularly in the Hindi heartland.

Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra

In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party emerged as the single-largest party with 37 seats, while the BJP managed only 33. In Maharashtra, the Congress won 13 seats, with the BJP-led alliance securing 17.

Odisha and Andhra Pradesh

The BJP performed well in Odisha, winning 20 out of 21 seats, and in Andhra Pradesh, where the BJP and its allies won 21 of the 25 seats.

2024 Lok Sabha Election Results

The 2024 Lok Sabha election results reveal significant changes in the Indian political landscape. The BJP’s seat tally of 240 marks a departure from its previous majorities in 2014 and 2019. Despite this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude for the continued trust placed in the NDA, calling it an “unprecedented moment in the history of India.”
