The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) flagship Regional Connectivity Scheme UDAN (UdeDeshkaAamNagrik) has been nominated for the Premier’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2020 under the category “Innovation (General) – Central”.
The Government of India has launched this award for recognizing, recognizing and rewarding the remarkable and innovative work done by Districts and Government / Government Organizations. This program focuses on Good Governance, high achievement, and end-to-end mileage rather than just achieving target value. The prize consists of a trophy, a roll and a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs.The Department of Aviation will receive the award on 21 April A special event organized by the Government of India in VigyanBhawan for the “Public Service Day” event where a representative of the department will receive the award.
The UDAN program aims
Launched in 2016, the UDAN program aims to fulfill the aspirations of the common man in line with the vision of UdeDeshkaAamNagrik, with improved aviation infrastructure and air connections in the Level II and III cities. In a short span of 5 years, today 415 UDAN routes connect 66 neglected airports, including helicopter terminals and waterways, and more than 92 lakh people have benefited from it. More than 1 lakh 79 flights have flown under this program. The UDAN program has greatly benefited a number of areas in pan-India including the Hilly States, the North East region and the islands.
Economic growth and employment
UDAN has had a positive impact on the country’s economy and has seen excellent response from industry stakeholders especially pilots and regional governments. More than 350 new pairs of new cities are now planned to be connected under this program, as 200 are connected and widely distributed in areas that provide connectivity across the country and ensure equitable regional growth leading to economic growth and employment in the area. population.
The project also led to the development of new Green Field Airports such as Pakyong near Gangtok in Sikkim, Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh and Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. The program also led to a 5% increase in the share of domestic passengers at non-urban airports.The Aviation Department plans and commits to build 100 new airports by 2024 in India with 1,000 new routes under the UDAN RCS program by 2026.
