Israel Launches Air Strikes on Hezbollah Targets in Eastern Lebanon

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Israel conducted air strikes on the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon, according to two Lebanese security sources cited by Reuters. This action came shortly after the downing of an Israeli drone over Lebanese airspace.

The strikes reportedly targeted a training camp belonging to the armed group Hezbollah in the village of Janta, near the border with Syria. Additionally, one of the strikes was aimed at the town of Safri, near the eastern city of Baalbek.

Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said fighter jets targeted weapons depots belonging to the Hezbollah group in southern Lebanon. The strikes targeted a vehicle in the town on the southern outskirts of Sidon.

Tensions between Hezbollah and Israel have been escalating since October 8, following an attack by Palestinian group Hamas on Israel. This incident led to a series of exchanges of fire across Lebanon’s southern border.

Earlier on Saturday, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for downing an Israeli drone over Lebanese territory. In a statement, the group identified the drone as a Hermez 900 belonging to the Israeli army.

The situation in the region remains tense as both sides continue to engage in actions and retaliations, raising concerns about further escalation and potential wider conflict.
