North Korea Claims Successful Test of New Hypersonic Missile

North Korea announced on Wednesday that it had conducted a successful test of a new mid- to long-range solid-fuel hypersonic missile, as reported by North Korean newspaper Rodong Sinmun.

The test came after North Korea fired a suspected intermediate-range ballistic missile into the sea on Tuesday, which is believed to have utilized solid fuel. This action prompted swift condemnation from South Korea, Japan, and the United States.

According to Rodong Sinmun, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un personally inspected the launch and praised it as a significant advancement in the country’s defense technology, showcasing the “absolute superiority” of North Korea’s military capabilities.

Kim Jong Un reportedly stated that North Korea has now converted all tactical, operational, and strategic-grade missiles of various ranges into solid-fuel systems, equipped with warhead control and capable of nuclearization, indicating a significant enhancement of North Korea’s missile arsenal.

The development of hypersonic missiles adds to the complexity and tensions surrounding North Korea’s military capabilities and its relations with neighboring countries and the international community at large.
