Six Feared Dead as Ship Collides with Baltimore Bridge

Tragedy struck in Baltimore as a container ship collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing it to collapse into the water below. Six individuals, part of a construction crew repairing the bridge, are feared dead after the incident. The ship, named Dali and operated by an Indian crew, lost power momentarily before crashing into the bridge.

While the 22 crew members on board the ship were unharmed, the six repairmen working on the bridge at the time of the collision are missing. Despite extensive search efforts, authorities have called off rescue operations, presuming the missing individuals have died.

The US Coast Guard Rear Admiral Shannon Gilreath expressed doubts about finding any survivors due to the conditions in the water. As temperatures and currents make it challenging for divers, authorities are shifting focus to recovery operations.

The Indian Embassy in the US extended condolences and offered assistance to affected Indian citizens, establishing a dedicated helpline for support.

Efforts to avert the crisis were made as the ship signaled a distress call and dropped anchors before the collision. Governor Wes Moore commended officials for their swift actions, preventing further casualties.

While investigations continue, social media speculations about a cyber attack and terrorism have been dismissed by FBI and other agencies. The focus now shifts to managing the aftermath, with the port closed indefinitely, traffic diverted, and vigilance maintained for potential fuel spills.

As Baltimore grapples with the aftermath of this tragic incident, authorities are working diligently to restore normalcy and ensure the safety of the community.
