Strengthening Defence Ties: India’s Raksha Rajya Mantri Ajay Bhatt Visits Saudi Arabia for World Defence Show 2024

In a testament to the burgeoning defence partnership between India and Saudi Arabia, Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt embarked on a significant visit to Riyadh as the head of the Indian delegation for the ongoing World Defence Show (WDS) 2024. The five-day exhibition, inaugurated on February 4, 2024, serves as a prominent platform for showcasing cutting-edge advancements in defence technology, fostering international collaboration among participating companies.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Indian government, Shri Ajay Bhatt extended warm greetings to the leadership of Saudi Arabia for hosting this prestigious event, which concludes on February 8, 2024.

During his visit, on February 6, 2024, the Raksha Rajya Mantri engaged in crucial meetings with key dignitaries, including the Defence Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and the Assistant Minister of Defence, Dr Khaled Al-Bayari.

Discussions revolved around various facets of bilateral defence cooperation, with a focus on expanding joint training exercises, technology transfer, and knowledge exchange. The talks underscored the commitment of both nations to bolstering their longstanding defence ties and exploring avenues for enhanced collaboration.

Furthermore, Shri Ajay Bhatt met with the Governor of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI), Ahmad Abdulaziz Al-Ohali, to deliberate on avenues for cooperation in defence production, research & development, and niche technologies. A visit to the pavilion of Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) provided valuable insights into the kingdom’s defence capabilities and potential areas of synergy.

Recognizing the evolving security landscape, both sides reiterated their commitment to deepening bilateral defence cooperation across various sectors, emphasizing the importance of a robust partnership in safeguarding regional security. Shri Ajay Bhatt expressed confidence in the continued growth of the India-Saudi Arabia partnership, underscoring its significant contribution to regional stability and global security.

Interactions with Indian defence companies participating in the Defence Show highlighted the impressive technological prowess and innovative solutions showcased by Indian firms. The Raksha Rajya Mantri commended their contributions and envisioned lasting partnerships that would bolster the defence industry in both nations.

The visit also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Munitions India Limited and its local partner, underscoring the commitment to fostering collaboration in defence production. Additionally, a business networking event facilitated exchanges between leading Indian and Saudi business personalities, exploring avenues for mutual growth and prosperity.

With both India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and Saudi Arabia’s ‘Vision 2030’ focusing on technological advancements and indigenous capabilities, there exists immense potential for collaboration in co-development and joint production of defence technologies. The visit has not only reaffirmed the inherent strength of bilateral ties but has also paved the way for new avenues of cooperation, reinforcing shared commitments towards a safer and prosperous future.
