The Modi-led Central government has posthumously announced the prestigious Bharat Ratna award for the late Bihar Chief Minister, Karpoori Thakur. Known as ‘Jan Nayak’ (People’s Leader), Thakur played a significant role in Bihar’s political landscape, serving as education minister, deputy chief minister, and ultimately as the Chief Minister. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who praised Thakur’s dedication to uplifting the downtrodden.

Parbati Baruah: India’s first female elephant mahout, challenging stereotypes from a young age.
Jageshwar Yadav: Welfare worker dedicated to the betterment of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) tribes of Birhor and Korwa.
Chami Murmu: Tribal environmentalist and women empowerment champion from Seraikela Kharsawan, known for spearheading afforestation efforts.
Gurvinder Singh: Divyang (physically challenged) social worker from Sirsa, working for the betterment of homeless, destitute, women, orphans, and people with disabilities.
Sathyanarayana Beleri: Rice farmer from Kasaragod, recognized as a guardian of paddy crops, preserving over 650 traditional rice varieties.
Dukhu Majhi: Environmentalist dedicating five decades to planting trees and spreading awareness for a greener future.
Sangthankima: Social worker from Aizawl, running Mizoram’s largest orphanage, ‘Thutak Nunpuitu Team.’
Hemchand Manjhi: Traditional medicinal practitioner from Narayanpur, providing affordable healthcare for over five decades.
Yanung Jamoh Lego: Herbal medicine expert from East Siang, providing medical care to over 10,000 patients, educating 1 lakh individuals on medicinal herbs.
Somanna: Tribal welfare worker from Mysuru, tirelessly working for the upliftment of the Jenu Kuruba tribe for over four decades.
And many more, including artists, performers, and craftsmen, who have dedicated their lives to preserving and promoting various traditional arts and crafts.
These awards recognize individuals from diverse fields who have made significant contributions to society, culture, and the welfare of communities across India.
