DRDO successfully tests Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet technology off the coast of Odisha

The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully tested the Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) booster at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.

The test successfully demonstrated reliable performance of all the critical components involved in a complex missile system and met all mechanical objectives. SFDR-based propulsion enables arrows to capture aerial threats over long distances at high speeds. System performance is verified from data captured on a number of comprehensive tools such as Telemetry, Radar and Electro Optical Tracking Systems used by ITR. SFDR was developed by Defense Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad in partnership with other DRDO laboratories such as Imarat Research Center, Hyderabad and the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Pune.

RakshaMantri Shri Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO on the successful SFDR trial. He described it as an important step in the development of missile technology in the country. Commending the teams involved in the construction, development and evaluation, Secretary, Department of R&D Defense and DRDO Chairman Dr G Satheesh Reddy said that with the successful SFDR testing, the range of air-to-air missiles could be improved.
