Indian Government Launches “Rastriya Vigyan Puraskar” to Honor Excellence in Science, Technology, and Innovation

New Delhi, January 15, 2024 The Government of India has introduced the prestigious “Rastriya Vigyan Puraskar,” a national award aimed at recognizing and celebrating outstanding contributions in the fields of Science, Technology, and Innovation. This initiative is designed to honor and inspire researchers, technologists, and innovators who have made significant advancements in these crucial domains.

Nominations and applications are invited for the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar (RVP) in various categories, acknowledging individual or team efforts in the fields of science, technology, and technology-led innovation. The awards will be conferred in the following four categories:

•Vigyan Ratna (VR): Recognizing lifetime achievements and contributions in a specific field of Science and Technology (Maximum of three awards).

•Vigyan Shri (VS): Acknowledging distinguished contributions in a given field of Science and Technology (Maximum of 25 awards).

•Vigyan Yuva Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (VY-SSB) award: Encouraging young scientists who have made an exceptional contribution in a specific field of Science and Technology (Maximum of 25 awards).

•Vigyan Team (VT) award: Commending exceptional contributions made by a team of three or more scientists, researchers, or innovators working collaboratively in a specific field of Science and Technology (Maximum of three awards).

The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar will be awarded in 13 domains, covering Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Mathematics & Computer Science, Earth Science, Medicine, Engineering Sciences, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Technology & Innovation, Atomic Energy, Space Science and Technology, and Others.

Nominations for these awards can be submitted on the Award Portal of the Ministry of Home Affairs (https://awards.gov.in/) from January 14, 2024, to February 28, 2024. General guidelines and details about the RVP are available on the awards portal. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, is coordinating the awards this year.

The announcement of the awards is scheduled for May 11, 2024 (National Technology Day), with the Award Ceremony taking place on August 23, 2024 (National Space Day). The Rastriya Vigyan Puraskar aims to highlight and honor the exemplary contributions of individuals and teams in advancing India’s scientific and technological landscape.
