Raipur: In a significant breakthrough against the drug trade, Raipur police apprehended a young man for allegedly trafficking cannabis in an ambulance and successfully recovered over 364 kilograms of the psychotropic substance from the emergency vehicle.
Late last night, a vigilant police team intercepted the suspicious ambulance near the Amanaka police station limits, leading to the discovery of a substantial quantity of cannabis, according to Azad Chowk City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Mayank Gurjar.
The CSP detailed that the seized contraband, with an estimated street value of around ₹36 lakh, was concealed within the ambulance. The interception was a result of the police team’s keen observation and quick action in response to the vehicle’s unusual behavior.
The arrested individual, identified as 22-year-old Suraj Khute from Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district, is now in custody and is expected to face charges related to drug trafficking.
During the course of the investigation, Khute revealed that he had procured the cannabis from Odisha and transported it to Baloda Bazaar. The police are continuing their inquiries to trace the entire network involved in the illicit drug trade.
This successful operation by Raipur police underscores the importance of proactive law enforcement efforts to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
