India has achieved a successful flight test of Helina, an Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM), in Pokhran. The test, part of user validation trials, marks a significant milestone for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and positions Helina as one of the most advanced Anti-Tank Weapons globally.
Developed by the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad under the Missiles and Strategic Systems (MSS) cluster of the DRDO, Helina has undergone successful user trials since 2018. The missile is designed for integration with the weaponized version of the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH).
Key Features:
•Range: Helina boasts a maximum range of seven kilometers.
•Capabilities: The missile system is equipped for all-weather, day, and night operations, capable of defeating battle tanks with conventional armor as well as explosive reactive armor.
•Integration: Developed for integration with helicopters in both the Indian Army and Air Force, the Air Force version is sometimes referred to as Dhruvastra.
•Engagement Modes: Helina can engage targets in both direct hit mode and top attack mode.
•Top Attack Mode: The missile climbs sharply after launch, travels at a certain altitude, and then plunges onto the top of the target.
•Direct Hit Mode: The missile travels at a lower altitude, directly striking the target.

•The Nag: A third-generation fire-and-forget missile developed for mechanized formations to engage heavily fortified enemy tanks.
•MPATGM (Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile): With a range of 2.5 kilometers, it offers fire-and-forget and top attack capabilities for infantry use.
•SANT (Smart Stand-off Anti-Tank Missile): Being developed for launch from the Mi-35 Helicopter for the Air Force’s anti-tank operations.
•ATGM for MBT Arjun: A laser-guided, precision-guided munition launched from the 120mm rifled gun of the Arjun tank, designed to engage and defeat Explosive Reactive Armour-protected armored targets.
