Opposition Leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Mahua Moitra to Face Questioning in Delhi on Separate Cases

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Faces ED Interrogation in Liquor Policy Case

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, is set to face interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the liquor policy case. This case has already led to the arrest of former Deputy CM of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, and the imprisonment of AAP MP Sanjay Singh. Kejriwal was previously questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in April.

The ED’s summons relate to a money laundering case linked to the liquor policy. The Supreme Court had recently rejected Manish Sisodia’s bail plea, tentatively establishing aspects regarding the transfer of ₹338 crore. The Aam Aadmi Party has expressed concerns that Kejriwal may be arrested after his questioning, alleging it is part of the BJP’s strategy to silence opposition leaders.

Mahua Moitra Faces Lok Sabha Ethics Committee Over ‘Cash-for-Questions’ Allegations

Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra is scheduled to appear before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee to provide her statement regarding allegations of ‘cash-for-questions’ brought against her by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai. These allegations revolve around claims that she received cash and expensive gifts from industrialist Jai Anant Dehadrai, allowing him access to her Parliament login.

This access was allegedly used to post questions against Gautam Adani. Both complainants have already recorded their statements before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee. Moitra admitted to sharing her Parliament login with Darshan Hiranandani in 2019, stating that this was to facilitate her team’s assistance in typing questions.

Moitra refuted the ‘cash’ allegations, explaining that her long-standing friendship with Darshan led to the exchange of some gifts. Darshan, however, acknowledged bribing Moitra in exchange for questions in Parliament. Moitra has sought to cross-examine Darshan, and recent reports indicated multiple log-ins to her parliamentary account from Dubai, sparking further interest in the case.

The cases involving Arvind Kejriwal and Mahua Moitra underscore the ongoing tensions between political parties in India and the challenges of maintaining transparency, accountability, and fair play in the country’s political landscape. Both cases will be closely monitored, as they have broader implications for the future of political funding and ethical conduct in Indian politics.
