A tragic incident occurred when six coaches of the Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express derailed near Raghunathpur station in Bihar’s Buxar district, resulting in the loss of four lives and injuries to 70 passengers. The derailment occurred around 9:53 pm. The train was en route from Anand Vihar terminal in Delhi to Kamakhya, near Guwahati, when the accident took place.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed his condolences for the lives lost and pledged to find the root cause of the accident.
Evacuation and rescue operations have been completed, and all coaches have been checked. Passengers with serious injuries were rushed to AIIMS, Patna, while others were taken to local hospitals.
Locals rushed to the rescue of passengers, helping them exit the toppled coaches. Police officials were also present at the scene, providing assistance to passengers. At least 18 trains operating on the route have been diverted due to the derailment, including the Rajdhani Express between Delhi and Dibrugarh.
The derailment occurred near Raghunathpur station, which is not a scheduled stoppage for the train. It took place less than half an hour after the train left Buxar station and was headed for Ara.
Rescue and restoration efforts are ongoing to address the tragic accident, with medical teams, emergency helplines, and scratch rakes dispatched to the scene to assist passengers and restore train services.
