India Launches ‘Operation Ajay’ to Repatriate Citizens from Israel and Palestine

Amid the escalation of the Israel-Hamas conflict, India announced the launch of “Operation Ajay” to repatriate its citizens from Israel and Palestine. The Indian government will facilitate the return of Indian citizens through special chartered flights, and the Indian Navy ships will be used if necessary.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar took to social media to announce the operation, stating the Indian government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its nationals abroad. The Indian embassy in Tel Aviv has begun sending emails to registered Indian citizens for the special flights, with messages to other registered individuals for subsequent flights to follow.

In addition to repatriation efforts, Jaishankar spoke with the UAE’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, discussing the ongoing crisis in West Asia and agreeing to stay in touch.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) established a 24-hour control room in New Delhi to monitor the situation, provide information, and assist Indian nationals. Contact details for the control room are provided for citizens seeking assistance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously highlighted the safety and security of Indian citizens in Israel during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who assured full cooperation and support.

This initiative reflects India’s efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of its citizens in the region, offering them assistance and support during these challenging times.
