India vs Malaysia Asian Games 2023 Quarter-Final Match Called Off Due to Rain

In a dramatic turn of events at the 19th edition of the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, the highly anticipated quarter-final clash between India and Malaysia in the women’s cricket event was called off due to persistent rain. Here’s a summary of the match:

Rain Halts Play, India’s Dominant Batting

Malaysia, chasing a target of 174 runs, had reached 1/0 in 0.2 overs before rain interrupted the second innings. Despite efforts to resume the match, the persistent rain played spoilsport.

In the rain-hit first innings, India posted a competitive total of 173/2. Shafali Verma was the star with a blistering half-century, smashing 67 runs off 39 balls, including four fours and five sixes. Jemimah Rodrigues (47*) and Richa Ghosh (7*) remained unbeaten for India.

Malaysia’s Bowling & Rain Delay

For Malaysia, Mahirah Izzati Ismail and Mas Elysa took a wicket each. However, their efforts were not enough to contain India’s batting onslaught. Rain had caused delays in both the first and second innings. The first innings resumed at 8:15 AM IST with the match reduced to 15 overs each side due to the weather conditions.

After a long rain delay and the inability to resume play, the match was officially called off. India secured a spot in the semi-finals due to their higher ranking. The overcast weather conditions had raised concerns about interruptions, and unfortunately, the match could not escape the wrath of rain.

As the match was called off, India advanced to the semi-finals, leaving fans eagerly awaiting their next clash in the Asian Games 2023.
