GCC and U.S. Unite in Renewed Call for Iran’s Full Cooperation with IAEA

In a unified stance, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the United States have reiterated their calls for Iran to fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as confirmed in a joint statement following a meeting of GCC Arab foreign ministers, the U.S. Secretary of State, and the GCC Secretary-General in New York.

This statement comes in response to Iran’s recent actions, where it barred multiple IAEA inspectors assigned to oversee its atomic activities. The move was characterized by the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog, Rafael Grossi, as “disproportionate and unprecedented.”

The crisis escalated after the United States, along with Britain, France, and Germany, led a call at the IAEA’s Board of Governors meeting for Iran to immediately cooperate with the agency on various issues, including providing explanations for uranium traces discovered at undisclosed sites.

The joint statement underscores the importance of Iran’s compliance with IAEA regulations and its obligation to cooperate transparently with the agency. It reflects the ongoing efforts by the international community to ensure Iran’s nuclear activities remain under scrutiny and in accordance with established norms.
